My Regina Pats All-Brent Parker Era Team

This was way harder than I thought it would be. 15 years is a long time to cover especially when there were a lot of player transactions in a few of the seasons. There were also a few lean years where the team never harldy ever scored. There are a couple of holdovers from the previous regime but had a couple of outstanding seasons donning the red, white and blue while under Parkers’ watch.

I know people will disagree with some of my picks and I will understand why..... This was hard to do.

So without further ado here is my picks:

FORWARDS
Scoring Line 1:
Boyd Kane (lw) - Josh Holden (c) - Jordan Eberle (rw)

Scoring Line 2:
Kyle Calder (lw) - Brett Lysak (c) - Ronald Petrovicky (rw)

Checking Line (Energy Line):
Garth Murray (lw) - Rick Rypien (c) - Colton Orr (rw)

Fourth Line:
David Kaczowka (lw) - Todd Davison (c) - David McDonald (rw)

DEFENCE
Top Pair:
Filip Novak - Derek Morris

Second Pair:
Brad Stuart - Logan Pyett

Shutdown Duo:
Barret Jackman - Colten Teubert

GOALTENDERS
Starter:
Josh Harding

Backup:
Chad Davidson

I do have explanations (reasons why I picked the players I did) and they will follow soon (I have a few to write up yet and I will post them all at once)... As well as a few honourable mentions (I think I will add a few "Black Aces" too).

I'm up early and not near any....

Internet connection for most of the early part of the day so I'm delaying my All-Brent Parker Era Team until I get home. It will give me some time to make any last minute adjustments. This is waaaay tougher than I thought it would be.

I'm working on my All-Brent Parker Era Pats team....

...and it's not as easy as I figured it would be. There have been a lot of players come and go and lots have made an impact whether it was good or bad.

Putting an all-star type team together would be easy (or at least easier) to accomplish. Picking a team with 2 "scoring" lines, a checking line and a 4th line (crash and banger, enforcer, etc.) is harder. There may be a few players that in many peoples' eyes shouldn't be anywhere near an all-time team but that's what I thought about the Montreal Canadiens' 100th anniversary team. So we'll see.

Starting goalie is a lock and starting right winger is also a lock but from there.... Anybody's guess. I'm trying to have some sort of criteria for a player... some players the Pats have acquired during the season and were lights out and only played half of a season so I will be weighing all of my options for my picks. It should bring on discussion (I hope).

I will have my team completed either tonight or early tomorrow (before the Clash game).

EDIT: I have come to a standstill on a few selections so I am going to go to the Trans-Canada Clash and watch the Alumni renew the rivalry then maybe late tonight or early tomorrow I will have the team posted.

Thanks for reading,

I'm looking forward....

.... to a few things with regards to the Pats.

-The Trans-Canada Clash in the Crushed Can will be a treat. I really enjoy the old-time rivalry between the Pats and the Warriors.... I wish it still existed. Maybe the good ol' home and home will re-hash the rivalry..... I hope.

-The team plays 4 games in 5 nights this weekend (ending Monday). I know they play something like 10 games in 16 days over the next stretch but I'm really looking to this weekend's games. EVERY game is important and hopefully they can pull out a 4 for 4. The odds are stacked in favour against them but this weekend will tell the tale for the rest of the season in my opinion.

-Kevin Lowe being the guest speaker at the Pats Dinner in March. I honestly can't wait to hear him speak. I know the Oil isn't doing very good this year but the guy won 6 Stanley Cups and played in numerous all-star games and was a rock solid defenceman for the Oilers and Rangers. I'm happy that I'm going it's going to be fun.

That's it for now.

Pats v. Ice game rescheduled for Mon. Feb. 1

From ReginaPats.com

Pats and Ice Reschedule Game
2010-01-25

Pats and Ice Rescheduled

Regina, Saskatchewan – The Regina Pats and Kootenay Ice have agreed on a make-up date for their game that was originally scheduled for Sunday, January 24th at 6pm which was postponed because of bad weather and poor driving conditions. The two teams will play the rescheduled game on Monday, February 1st, 2010 at 7pm at the Brandt Centre.

All tickets purchased for the postponed game on the 24th will be valid for the make-up game on Monday, February 1st.

It will be a tough stretch for both clubs, as the Pats will end up playing 6 games in 9 nights, while the Ice will also play 6 games in 9 nights, all on the road.

To purchase tickets for this, or any Regina Pats hockey, call at 543-7800, or drop by the or visit the box office located in the west entrance of the Brandt Centre. For more information, head to www.reginapats.com.

I don't know how many people still....

.... read my blog but I am still here.

I've been thinking of things to write about recently and have come up with a few ideas.

I got thinking of putting together a Regina Pats All-Time team kind of like the Montreal Canadiens did for their 100th Anniversary. I WILL do that in time. This just might be an All-Star team but I’m not sure how that will go yet.

With the All-Time team idea in mind I have decided to switch it up a bit and put together an All-Time Brent Parker Era team.

I know.... I know.... there are people that have issues with Brent.... Love him or hate him (I know what most people will say about this); he is the Pats GM and his family owns the Pats. By my calculations this is the 15th season the Parker’s have owned and ran the Pats so an All-Time Brent Parker Era team almost makes sense.

I’m actually going to use some of the Montreal Canadiens ideas and actually put a TEAM together I don’t want to make an all-star team. I will provide reasoning behind each selection. The team will consist of a starting goalie and a backup (an actual backup). Have 2 scoring lines (lw, c, rw) a checking line and a 4th line (basically a secondary checking line with one tough guy roaming the wing). It will also have 3 defensive pairs; 2 pairs to make the “top 4” and a third pair. I will also have a few “black aces” and I haven’t decided as to what I am going to do with these.... maybe honourable mentions in each position but I will decide soon. I will start posting my All-Time Brent Parker Era team later this week.

If anyone has any ideas as to who to have on the team feel free to comment or email me. There are a lot of players that could be included (and a few obvious ones, i.e. Jordan Eberle) but feel free to have a say.

The power has gone out in Swift....

Rod's got a couple pictures on his blog: right here.

Pats v. Broncos (Jan. 22) Thoughts

Well I know it's a bit late but had things to do today but here goes nothing. So I'll keep it short.

First thing.... What is up with the stupid person (people) throwing the plastic rats on the ice during the anthem? People grow up.... it was a dumb thing to do. Some people.

Okay on to the game.... I’m not going to pick on any players in specific as I don’t think it would do me any good to “trash” and “bash” a player.

I dunno what is up with the Pats D-zone coverage the last little while... on 3 or 4 of the goals Swift had players behind our defencemen. I’m not sure if it’s the lack of back checking from the forwards or what has happened but if they could correct that the GA would be waaaaay less. I know people are going to say that there were rebounds there but the Pats had no one to clear them out.

I really liked the physicality in the first period but the officiating was a real question through 20 minutes. It seemed as though each ref wanted to out call the other one. Then almost out of nowhere there was hardly any calls and I loved it.... let the players decide the outcome.

I know I’m kind of rambling a bit here but oh well. I wish I knew what Hunt’s “motive” is to play 3 lines for almost half a game. There might be more to it than we as fans see but I don’t think Hricina and Mulder had that bad of games but I’m not the coach (thankfully).

I’m going to give Hunt some credit though switching up the lines. Listening to the post game show I may not have heard right but I think Al Dumba said that Hunt benched Ashton for some shifts. I can’t say as to if he was actually benched or not but I like him on the line with Leffler and Orfino. Ashton NEEDS to SHOOT more.

Gustafsson playing with the Jordan’s in my opinion is a darn good line. But in all honesty most players would look decent with the Jordan’s. Time will tell though I guess.

I’m honestly thinking that the Pats are becoming more like the Cardiac Kids with each game. These shoot outs are hard on the ticker. I’m glad they pulled out the W. Gotta keep it going!

-----------
Colten Teubert is really starting to show why he’s got the C stitched on his jersey. I don’t know if it’s just me but he seems waaaaaaay more focused and I think people need to leave him alone. He deserved the Hardest Working Pat.

Cass Mappin probably played his best game that I have seen him play in a Pats jersey. I was worried when he got into the scrape with Verdino and got body slammed into the ice. He got up looking pretty wobbly on his skates. To my surprise he came back and was a physical presence.

I’ve read on a couple message boards (or comments I can’t remember where I read it) that Jordan Eberle didn’t have a good game. Do these homers not realize that Swift Current has a defenceman named Derek Claffey who seemed to be on the ice every time Eberle was out there and checked him really close. Eberle had a good game as did Claffey.... Is that possible? I think so.

Repeat: Carter Ashton NEEDS to SHOOT more.

That’s about it for this one.

I’m going to go listen to Rod and Dan call the rest of the 2nd and 3rd in Swift.

GO PATS GO!

I think....

I'm going to not post my thoughts on the season for a bit (like I mentioned earlier in the week). I still need to think about a few things before postin them here.

I honestly thought that last night's game was going to be a barn burner and I was hoping that the Pats/Warrriors rivalry was going to be back in effect. The game lacked intensity and excitement like the good old days. Making things worse is the fact that the Pats have almost 50% new players since the beginning of the season so that could easily be killing off the rivalry. Man I miss those old days. I can honestly say I was disappointed in last nights game and I'm not totally sure why..... After the second period I was almost bored out of my mind..... that NEVER happens to me at any hockey game(s).

I really hope that they come out guns a-blazing tonight against the Tigers.... or let the trade speculation go through the roof. Be prepared Brent.... it's gonna be a hard next few hours.

I've been reading other blogs (especially their comments) and man oh man I really hope no players read them. I admit I have been critical of players but I have never downright said what some of these "fans" have posted they should be ashamed of themselves. I can't believe that people have the guts to post what they do. Oh the anonymity of the internet.... I  won't hide behind a username or as anonymous... man that bothers me.

I do have many more thoughts but I'm going to hold off on them for a while like I said in my first line but I'm going to stew about them for a while yet and when I feel the time is right I will post them.

As always..... GO PATS GO!!!

Looks like Hutt is done for the season.

Greg Harder is reporting that Killian Hutt is done for the season "due to a follow-up surgery on a recurring cyst that was removed in the off-season."

Read the whole article here on Greg Harder's Slap Shots.

--------------
That's really too bad, I would have really liked to see him at the top of his game.... I hope he's healthy for next season. Get well Killian!!

Congrats to the States on the WJ gold

They put on a show against our Canadians. It was such an amazing game. I am speechless at the moment.

Jordan Eberle - You did us Pats fans proud with all your late game heroics... too bad there wasn't one more. As Gord Miller said "Can you believe it?" Yes I can.

Colten Teubert - No matter what people say.... I think you had a good tournament and took some unfair criticism (last year and this year). You did us Pats fans proud.

Silver is nothing to sneeze at!

Anyway that's about all I've got for tonight.

--------------
Also, as I mentioned in my last post I was going to post some thoughts but have yet to. I jotted some things down in a notebook that I have misplaced. I will have something soon regarding the state of the Pats from my perspective.

Here's hoping for a great 2010

for the Pats.

GO PATS GO!

I promise I will have more to say after I listen to the game tonight (probably early tomorrow am). To be honest I really don't know what I'm going to write but I have some ideas. Later, KS
