EBERLE WANTS TO STAY
Pats Star Hopes To Nix Deal To Memorial Cup Hosts

This isn't a newspaper but if it was, that would be the headline blaring across the front page of today's Sports section.

Yes, this was the story I was alluding to on Tuesday's postgame radio show after the Pats' 5-3 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings. I said I had some news about Eberle I was sitting on and here it is.

In an article for the upcoming winter edition of Fine Lifestyles Regina Magazine, I profiled Eberle and the Regina Pats. With the club languishing around the .500 mark one-third into the season, there's become speculation Eberle and teammate Colten Teubert could be sent to the 2010 Memorial Cup host Brandon Wheat Kings, or the conference-leading Saskatoon Blades.

"I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about it (the trade rumours)," said the Pats' leading scorer. "Obviously there is talk out there but as far as my thoughts go, I want to help Regina be a Memorial Cup contender."

This is a story in my eyes because we've had local players on the Pats before who wanted a trade to a contender.

Not Jordan Eberle.

"I've grown up through this system and I owe a lot to it so in my mind I would love to help Regina do well and finish off my career here on a winning note."

So there ya go. The Scoop Du Jour.

I know there are some factions within the Regina Pats organization who desperately want Eberle and teammate Colten Teubert to stay with the club to finish their careers. However G.M. Brent Parker must at least be thinking about making a move.

At least now, whichever teams are interested will have to come up with a king's ransom.
