GAME STORY – The Regina Pats clinched their first post season berth in four years with a thrilling 5-4 victory over the arch rival Warriors in front of a sold out Brandt Centre. The Warriors outshot the Pats 43-21 but it was rookie forward Morgan Klimchuk with the only shot that mattered as he beat Luke Siemens from the left faceoff circle with 4 1/2 minutes left in the 3rd period to send the Pats faithful home happy. Regina went 1/4 on the Powerplay while Moose Jaw was 2/5. Playoff tickets will go on sale March 16th at the Brandt Centre Box Office.

2nd Period – The Warriors drew even on Miller’s second goal but Lyndon Martell banged in a pass from Tanner Olstad to give the Pats a 3-2 lead. The Warriors tied it up with under two minutes to go in the 2nd period when James Henry banged in a loose puck to leave things all knotted up after two.
Pats – 3  Warriors – 3

3rd Period – The Warriors grabbed their first lead of the night as Kenton Miller completed his Hat Trick on the power play just past the 5 minute mark of the 3rd but the Pats would not be denied. Thoughts....

This past weekend seemed to be the weekend for comebacks. As most of you are aware that the Pats pulled off an almost miracle-like comeback on Saturday coming from 4 goals down to beat the Wheat Kings 6-4. Sunday night was another game that is hard on Pats fans nerves (this one anyway) as the Pats were able to battle back and beat the Raiders 4-3 with the captain scoring with just over 20 seconds left in the game.

I honestly still can't believe that the Pats were able to comeback from the 4 goal deficit. When Dziurzynsi scored the 4-0 goal I thought the game was all but done. Hewitt was lifted and Beukeboom entered the contest something happened.... and I don't know what it was but the Pats took advantage in a huge way and took over the game and made the Wheat Kings look very average. When the Pats scored to tie the game I have to say that it might have been one of the loudest ovations I have heard in a very long time at the Brandt Centre including a standing ovation.... When they scored the 5th goal I think that it was topped. for the size of the crowd it was unbelievably loud and included yet another standing ovation! Were the Wheat Kings Beuke-Beuke-Beuke-Beuke-BOOMED? I don't know but it was amazing.

I know it's 66 games into the season but I still don't get this team.... and that's a good thing. The Pats of the last few seasons would have in most cases "folded up their tents" and limped off the ice with a lopsided loss. This team battles and battles and I have to learn to not count the 2011/12 Pats out in any game.

Congrats to Jordan Weal in moving on up in the Pats record books!

That's all I really have tonight.... Pats vs. Wheat Kings tomorrow. Hopefully it will be as exciting as Saturday but not as heart wrenching.

GO PATS GO!!

Pats Win 4-3!

Internet is acting wonky for some reason, so no write up tonight.

I will compile some thoughts about the weekend and get those up tomorrow.

GO PATS GO!!!

EDIT: I inadvertently screwed up my cable and internet so I'm doing this from my phone and it's brutal. I have some weekend thoughts.... I guess I'll have to try to get them up as soon as I can.

Game Night: Pats vs. Raiders

I will thoughts after the game tonight.

Look for Beukeboom to get the start tonight.

GO PATS GO!

PS: What a crazy game last night! I still can't get over it.

What a game!

HOLY COMEBACK PATSFANS! UN-BE-LIEVE-ABLE!

I'm pretty much at a loss for words right now. I really don't know what to say. You can find the summary and other stories other places but for now I have three words for you.......

GO PATS GO!

Goodnight all!

Random stat from Pats history

Does anyone remember Hal Christiansen? The lanky blueliner from Bluffton, Alberta played for the Pats from 1989 to 1992 playing in 125 games registering 14 points in his career. Of his 14 points none of them were goals giving him a Pats record.

Christiansen has played the most games without scoring a goal in Pats history (doesn't include netminders). 125 games played with zero goals. He also played 10 playoff games and also never registered a goal.

I just took another look at these stats and noticed that a more current player has played the second most games without a goal. Tyler Borstmayer has played 87 games without lighting the lamp.

Please note that there is no slight intended from this post. These players played for the Pats and that in itself is an achievement worth mentioning.

Jordan Weal's making his mark in Pats History

Points:
Jordan has moved into 5th all-time in Pats scoring and will most likely move into 4th within the next few games as he only trails Len Nielsen (376) by 5 points. Weal is currently sitting at 371 points.

Assists:
Jordan is currently sitting 4th all-time in assists just two assists behind Mike Sillinger for 3rd all-time. Sillinger has 241 assists (Weal with 239).

Goals:
Jordan's not in the top 10 all-time, but he's currently sitting in 18th just two goals behind Dirk Graham for 17th all-time. Dirk has 134 goals (Weal with 132).

Games Played:
Jordan is currently sitting in 10th all-time with 275. He will tie Dion Zukiwsky for 9th all-time tonight as he plays his 276th game. If he plays the teams final 8 games he will pass Perry Johnson, Mark Janssens and Matt Hubbauer and move into 6th all-time.

Game Night! Pats vs. Wheat Kings

This should be a dandy! I can honestly say that I'm actually excited for the stretch drive for the Pats. It's been a long time coming. With so many games against the Wheats left this year it should feel like playoff hockey (I hope).... if I can remember what that feels like.

You can find the game notes from the Pats here.

Leader Post's Greg Harder has a preview here.

As always,

GO PATS GO!

Former Pats Born on this day

I'm not sure if I'm going to do this every day but I figured I would give it a shot for a while. After the research I've done I have probably found at least 900 (of just over 1200) players/goalies "vitals" (dates of birth, place of birth, hometown, height, weight, etc.) and I figured that I would share some as I go about my other research. If anyone has old programs or lineups (I'm looking for some jersey numbers) that they are willing to share information on that would be greatly appreciated. You can email me at theblueliner@gmail.com or patshockey1917@gmail.com. Thanks.

New month, new attitude for blogging.

I know I've said it before (more than once) that I would be back and blog more but my other Pats project has taken over. When I do have free time (and have a good internet connection I just don't feel like blogging much). But I've decided to quit letting other things get in the way and get TheBlueliner going on a way more consistent basis starting today. I'm not sure which direction I want to really go with it but I have some ideas. Stay tuned.
