Pats vs. Wheats Game Notes

GAME NIGHT - TONIGHT – March 7/12

THE MATCH_UP – Regina (35-24-5-2 / 6th in East Conference) / Brandon   (35-27-1-3 / 8th in East Conference) – Regina holds a 2-1-1-1 edge through the first 5 meetings with three games remaining including tonight’s game. Both Brandon and the Pats have five games remaining after tonight. The two teams last met this past Saturday night when the Pats erased a 4 goal deficit with 6 straight 3rd period goals to win 6-4. The Wheat Kings are led by Mark Stone, Michael Ferland and Alessio Bertaggia; Ferland attended Team Canada’s selection camp while Stone led Team Canada in scoring at the World Juniors over Christmas. Bertaggia played a big role with Team Switzerland at that same tournament.

MILESTONES – Jordan Weal registered 7 assists over the weekend to pass Len Nielsen and move into fourth place on the Regina Pats All-Time scoring list with 378 career points. Jordan now only trails Dennis Sobchuk (416), Mike Sillinger (419) and Dale Derkatch (491) on the career Pats scoring list. Weal also  jumped  past Pats great Mike Sillinger and into 3rd All Time in assists with 246 for his career. Lane Scheidl played in his 200th career game on Sunday vs. Prince Albert While Brandon Davidson is just 6 games shy of that same mark

CONFERENCE ROUND-UP –   With one more win or one more Red Deer loss the Pats will clinch a berth in the 2012 WHL Playoffs. The Pats have moved into 2nd place in the East Division and 6th place in the Conference 2 points up on Saskatoon and 3 points ahead of the Brandon Wheat Kings with 6 games left to play. Regina is 3 points back of Kootenay for 5th place and 5 back of Calgary for 4th and home ice in the first round. Four teams; Edmonton, Moose Jaw, Medicine Hat and Calgary have punched their ticket to the post season dance.
