Ex-Pat captain Kyle Deck has signed with the Texas Brahmas of the CHL for the 2009-10 season.

From the Brahmas website:

WRECK 'EM DECK, BRAHMAS SIGN DEFENSEMAN FOR 2009-10
07/30/2009 8:24 AM

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (July 30)-The Texas Brahmas of the Central Hockey League (CHL) have added more depth and size to their blueline as they have announced the signing of defenseman Kyle Deck for the 2009-10 season.

Last season the 6-foot-1, 201 pound defenseman played with the Flint Generals of the International Hockey League (IHL). As a General, Deck played 45 games notching 38 points (13 G, 25 A) and 48 penalty minutes. In January, Deck was honored as the IHL Rookie of the Week due to an offensive weekend where he tallied 4 points (2 G, 2 A) in 3 games.

Deck led the league in points (38) and assists (25) and was tied for second in goals (13) among all defensemen before going overseas to play with Jesenice, a Slovenian hockey team of the Austrian Erste Bank Hockey League.

In 2007-08, the Sedley, SASK native saw playing time with the Flint Generals, suiting up in eight games following a season with the University of Regina of the CWUAA (Canada West Universities Athletic Association). In college Deck had 9 points (1 G, 8 A) in 24 games.

Deck began his hockey career playing in juniors in the Western Hockey League (WHL), playing five seasons with the Kamloops Blazers and Regina Pats. During this time the 23 year old defenseman collected 106 points (25 G, 81 A) in 266 games.

"Our defense was one of the elite crew in the league last season, and we look for that same success. With Kyle on our blueline, we are sure to shutdown top lines this season," said Brahmas Head Coach Dan Wildfong.

Deck joins Craig Minard and Casey Russell on the Brahmas defensive roster as well as players Brett Jaeger, Jason Deitsch, Jamie Carroll, A.J. Gale and Jordan Cameron.

Season tickets for the Brahmas 2009-10 season are now available for purchase. For ticket information please contact the Brahmas offices at (817) 336-4423.

Another ex-Pat goes Pro

Photo: Western Hockey League website.

Ryan McDonald has signed with the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL.

The blurb on Elmira's website:

Center Ryan McDonald joins the club having led Prince Albert of the WHL in goals
in the 2008-2009 season with 37. His 63 points last year were a four point
improvement from his 2007-2008 campaign with Prince Albert. A Saskatchewan
native, McDonald also laced up in one playoff game last season with the Rocky
Mountain Rage of the CHL, his lone professional start. Martinson said, "Ryan is
a good young player with a great scoring touch. We are counting on him to score
some big goals."

HERALD STAFF
The Prince Albert Daily Herald

The Prince Albert Raiders are pleased to announce that Prince Albert Minor Hockey Association product forward Ryan McDonald has signed an East Coast Hockey League contract with the Elmira (New York) Jackals.
“This is one of the steps I want to take to further my hockey career and I want to thank many people for their help along the way,” said McDonald in a press release.
“The Raider coaching staff — past and present — my teammates, everyone in the organization,
the fans and most of all my family and friends have helped me to achieve this goal.
“Being from PA, growing up here, playing hockey here most of my whole life was incredible.”
The Raiders acquired McDonald from the Regina Pats on Dec. 7, 2006, allowing him to finish his Western Hockey League career with his hometown Raiders. In his final 2 1/2 seasons of Major Junior eligibility, McDonald appeared in 183 games with 82 goals, 80 assists and 274 minutes in
penalties.
In 2007-08 he tied for the team scoring title with 59 points, then in 08-09 finished second on the team with 63 points.
“We are very pleased for Ryan,” said Raider general manager and head coach Bruno Campese.
“He has worked extremely hard over the past year to turn pro and we are very excited for him.”
